Our Fairytale

Fairytales have always been around since I was a little girl. It shaped my idea of what love is, like slaying a dragon and waking up the princess with “true love’s kiss” or finding the girl that “fit the shoe”. As I grew older I realized that love and relationships weren’t as easy as slaying a dragon, I learned that love was just an emotion that would fade over time. Very cynical of me to say but that was how I was felt before I met Adam. I was convinced that (nowadays) love was unattainable; it was a fable, a myth, a fairytale that only existed in stories. Our fairytale isn’t by the books, it was somewhat unconventional but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The day we met, changed my life without me even realizing it… and here we begin, with our “Once upon a time.”

Adam and I met through the Internet. I honestly didn't think that it would lead me to finding “the one” and look where it got me; I am less than six months away from changing my last name. It took him three weeks to get me to finally agree to go on a date with him. Online dating is kind of a gamble but then again, dating in general is unpredictable. I’m glad he was stubborn otherwise I’d probably be stuck in a million other scenarios that would not be as perfect as it is now.

Our first date was at a Thai restaurant. This man showed up twenty minutes early and patiently waited at the front of the entrance with a dozen, sherbet-colored roses. He looked uncertain and nervous his facial expressions gave everything away. He was shy and way too polite…it was absolutely adorable. When I got to the front of the door we said our hellos. As he reached over to open the door for me to enter the restaurant I couldn't help but smile, I guess chivalry wasn’t dead after all.

As weeks quickly turned into months, we spent our summer filled with hiking trips, walks around Alki, trying new restaurants around Seattle, watching The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, and having Wednesday dubbed as our “Movie date night”. Things were simple, we laughed and smiled and it seemed by the end of every night, it became clear to me that if anyone was ever meant to be for me, he was it.

Adam seems to instill a kind of patience (that I've never acquired), loyalty, and an abundance of love for me.... and I haven't the slightest clue why. He is the main cause for my laughter and smiles and I know that our love for one another would never fade. Everyday, there seems to be something new to love about him even more.

The day he got down on one knee was a very special moment for us. Adam and I got engaged at Disneyworld. How fitting to have found my prince charming and for him to take me to the happiest place on earth. This is our introduction to our fairytale but just the beginning to our happily ever after.
